Aker Kvaerner CEO unveils 5th company in Aberdeen, creating
more than 20 jobs
Less than a year after designating Aberdeen as its UK headquarters
for oil & gas, Aker Kvaerner’s commitment to the city
has been further reaffirmed, with the arrival of a fifth Aker Kvaerner
company.
Aker Kvaerner Operations specialises in operations services for
the upstream oil and gas industry, including tail-end production,
marginal field operations development and operations consultancy.
The business has created more than 20 new jobs in Aberdeen, joining
its sister companies Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner Ltd, Kvaerner
Oilfield Products Ltd, Kvaerner Process Systems and Maritime Hydraulics
UK.
Aker Kvaerner Operations’s arrival in the North East comes
only eight months after the company opened its main office in Stavanger,
where they have already enjoyed considerable success, providing
operations support to Total’s ‘Frigg’ asset.
Aker Kvaerner Operation’s original plans to open offices
in Aberdeen by the end of the year were brought slightly ahead of
schedule, following the transfer and expansion of the operational
support contract with Amerada Hess from Aker Kvaerner Offshore Partner
Ltd. to Aker Kvaerner Operations Ltd.. Aker Kvaerner Operations
personnel are now providing complete onshore support for the AH001
platform on the Ivanhoe/Rob Roy fields.
The CEO of the Aker Kvaerner Group, Helge Lund, announced the arrival
of Aker Kvaerner Operations during a visit to Aberdeen today. He
said it was a further demonstration of Aberdeen’s importance
to Aker Kvaerner: "Eighteen months ago, we had three businesses
in Aberdeen, and now we have five. The North Sea remains a key component
of our strategy within offshore maintenance, modifications and operations".
The Managing Director of Aker Kvaerner Operations, Tore Nedregaard
says the Amerada Hess contract represents an exciting start for
the new Aberdeen team: "We always knew that the North Sea held
great potential for AKO, and the AH001 contract is proof of that.
The platform has a planned shutdown date of Autumn 2005, but we
are hoping we can work closely with Amerada Hess to extend the field’s
working life by a few years.
"Coming to Aberdeen gives us immediate access to Aker Kvaerner
resources and expertise on both sides of the North Sea. We have
had excellent cooperation from our sister companies here, and the
future looks bright."
