Peak employee wins top UKOOA award

Posted: 7 November 2003

Jeanette Gordon, a well engineer with Peak Well Management, has won the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA) Pearl Award for the oil and gas industry's most promising young employee.

The specially commissioned trophy — a piece of core drilled from the Dunlin field 30 years ago — and £500 were presented to Jeanette by SNP Westminster leader and Banff and Buchan MP Alex Salmond at Ardoe House Hotel, Aberdeen, on the 6th November.

The one off award, which was in recognition of UKOOA celebrating its 30th year, aimed to find the most promising employee in the UK oil and gas industry who was also celebrating their 30th birthday this year.

On receiving her award, Jeanette announced that she would give her cash prize to the Grampian Autistic Society, and Peak has decided to make a matching donation to the worthy cause.

Jeanette, who lives in Aberdeen, has worked for Peak Well Management for three years. The company, which is an international specialist in well engineering, management and construction, is part of The Peak Group. Jeanette was commended by the judges for her contribution, vision and commitment to the future of the UK Continental Shelf.

As part of the award, she submitted a short article on the future of the North Sea and was then interviewed by a panel from UKOOA. Her article highlights how the demanding environment of the UKCS has enabled the workforce to move into the 21st century with vigour and endurance.

She said: "Peak has been an excellent company to work for, because they have recognised my skills and enabled me to develop them to their potential. I have also been encouraged to join various forums and discussions, which has been great for me.

"This award is a recognition, not only of the increasingly significant role woman are playing in today¹s oil and gas industry in the North Sea, but of the forward thinking approach of Peak to develop its personnel.

"We are all working in evolving, technically innovative industry utilising computer, internet and communications software to a degree unimaginable 30 years ago, therefore I look forward to the next 30 years of revolutionary change."

The Peak Group managing director, Andrew Paterson, said: "At Peak we take great pride in developing the engineers of the future and welcome the fact that Jeanette, as one of our promising young well engineers, is helping to shape the industry in the North Sea."

UKOOA acting director general Steve Harris said: "The hunt for this pearl was not easy. Competition was tough with a large number of high quality entrants. However, it is exciting and reassuring to see that the industry employs some very promising young people who will carry the sector forward through the next 30 years."

Established in 1996, The Peak Group has grown rapidly to become a leading supplier of well engineering and operations management services to the global upstream industry.

The Peak Group incorporates Peak Well management, Peak Solution Systems and Peak Consultancy Services. The group's service portfolio incorporates the provision of full project management solutions from engineering studies through to the provision of individual consultants and well engineering processes.

The Peak Group, based in Aberdeen (UK), Perth (Australia), Houston (U.S.) and Jakarta (Indonesia) was recognised as one of the UK's fastest growing privately-owned companies in a survey commissioned by Real Business magazine in 2002.

In January 2003 the company officially launched its unique campaign modelling software application C1.

The application is an effective process in the better understanding of risks and the reduction of campaign costs for projects ranging from single well planning to multiple well campaign analysis. In November 2002 The Peak Group launched P1Version 2, an update on its P1 software application for the time-cost risk planning of well construction activities.
