Exxon Mobil Corporation announced a contribution of $100,000 by
the ExxonMobil Foundation to the American Red Cross to aid the thousands
of Southern California residents endangered by the devastating wildfires
and evacuated from their homes in the counties of San Diego, San
Bernardino, Los Angeles and Ventura.
As firefighters begin to suppress the largest wildfire in California
history, the Red Cross has opened 40 emergency shelters/evacuation
centers and housed some 12,000 displaced residents. More than 4,300
Red Cross volunteers are providing food, emotional support, medication
replacement and other vital support.
"Our hearts and thoughts go out to the thousands of victims
of the devastating wildfires who are in urgent need of assistance.
We applaud the Red Cross for its immediate response and strongly
believe that it is important to support them and help them continue
to provide the assistance and disaster relief needed," said
Gary Wilson, refinery manager of the ExxonMobil Torrance Refinery.
"With 1,500 employees and contractors as well as nearly 2,000
retirees living in the state of California, this disaster is extremely
personal to us."
Exxon Mobil Corporation supplies Californians with nearly 10 percent
of their motor vehicle fuel refined at the Torrance Refinery, provides
fuel to over 900 branded service stations in Southern California,
has four terminals located in Torrance, Vernon, Atwood and Mission
Valley, Calif., and operates production facilities in Santa Barbara
and Kern counties.
