Hydrasun new plant expands business and creates jobs

Posted: 19 November 2003

Hydrasun Group, the leading supplier of hoses, fluid connectors and instrumentation to the oil and gas industry, is to open a new extrusion plant in Aberdeen, on Friday November 21 2003, as part of its expansion and business development programme.

Lord Provost of the City of Aberdeen, John Reynolds, will officially open the new facility.

Up to 10 jobs are expected to be created at the 20,000 square foot facility, which will produce specialist polyurethane coated hydraulic and electro-hydraulic umbilical assemblies for the oil and gas industry.

This specialist plant is the largest investment to date by the Hydrasun Group, which has its headquarters in Aberdeen and has bases throughout the UK and in the Netherlands. Products from the facility will be supplied to a number of key markets including the North Sea, the Caspian Sea region and West Africa where Hydrasun will shortly be opening a new distribution and service support centre.

Hydrasun chief executive officer Bob Drummond said: "This plant has been established to satisfy a niche market and as part of our expansion and development both in the UK and internationally.

"These new facilities have been designed in response to a demand from companies which require short length hydraulic jumper bundles and umbilicals within extremely fast turnaround times. Traditionally, companies aiming to deliver shorter length umbilicals have had to alter their production lines to cater for these types of assemblies, creating extra cost and extending delivery times.

"Our largest market has traditionally been in the North Sea which in addition to its size, has also been the focus of many technical and innovative developments within the oil and gas industry. We are now aiming to build upon this in order to satisfy a growing international demand for our products. To keep pace with that growth in demand we need additional facilities and have opted to operate these from our headquarters in Aberdeen."
