GE to supply turbo compressor train for oil & gas platform off
coast of Sakhalin island
Posted: 26 November 2003
The Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. (SEIC) awarded GE Oil
& Gas a contract of more than US$12 million to supply a turbo
compressor train for an oil and gas production platform off the
coast of Russia's Sakhalin Island, located north of Japan.
SEIC is owned by Shell Sakhalin Holdings, a subsidiary of Shell
Gas BV; Mitsui Sakhalin Development, a subsidiary of Mitsui; and
Diamond Gas Sakhalin, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation.
GE Oil & Gas, a business unit of GE Power Systems, will provide
a turbo compressor (booster/export) package consisting of a PGT25
gas turbine driving, via a gearbox, a compressor train including
BCL506 and BCL457 centrifugal compressors. The complete package
will be installed on a single-lift, three-point base plate. Spare
parts for commissioning are included in the scope of supply.
The turbo compressor train will compress from a suction pressure
of 8.6 bar-abs up to a pressure of 86.0 bar-abs for transportation
from the platform to on-shore processing facilities. The train will
absorb approximately 15,500 kilowatts. Under these conditions, the
gas turbine driver will operate with a global thermal efficiency
of approximately 34 per cent.
The compressor package will operate in a harsh environment, exposed
to temperatures down to -39°C.
The PGT25 gas turbine and the compressors will be manufactured
at GE's Oil & Gas facilities in Florence, Italy, while the LM2500
gas generator for the package will be manufactured at GE's Cincinnati,
Ohio facility. The package will undergo a no-load, full-speed string
test at GE Oil & Gas facilities in Italy before being shipped
in September of 2004. The train will be mounted on the module in
South Korea during the winter of 2005, and will be installed on
the offshore platform and begin commercial operation during the
spring and summer of 2005.
GE Oil & Gas is based in Florence, Italy, the home of Nuovo
Pignone, a long-time global leader in gas compression and turbo
generation products. Other members of the GE Oil & Gas business
include Gemini, GE Packaged Power Odessa, Rotoflow, A-C Compressor
