Production starts at Jasmim Deepwater Angolan field
Posted: 3 December 2003
Exxon Mobil Corporation announced the start-up of Jasmim oil field
production in Angola's deepwater offshore area known as Block 17.
Jasmim, operated by Total, is located approximately 95 miles (150
kilometers) northwest of Luanda in water depths of 4,600 feet (1,400
meters).
Discovered in April 2000, Jasmim is one of fifteen discoveries
announced in Block 17 and the second to be brought on stream following
Girassol in December of 2001. The Jasmim development consists of
eight sub-sea wells tied back to the Girassol Floating, Production,
Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel.
Jasmim will increase production on Block 17 to at least 230,000
barrels of oil a day to the Girassol FPSO and prolong the production
plateau.
It is an integral part of the growth strategy for Block 17 production.
ExxonMobil's subsidiary, Esso Exploration Angola (Block 17) Limited,
has a 20 per cent interest in the Jasmim development with coventurers
Total E&P Angola (operator 40 per cent), BP (16.67 per cent),
Statoil (13.33 per cent), and Norsk Hydro (10 per cent). Sonangol
is the concessionaire for the block.
