Lukoil President appointed to Kazakhstan Council
Posted: 4 December 2003
Vagit Alekperov, President of OAO LUKOIL, has been appointed to
Kazakhstan’s Foreign Investments Council in accordance with
the Decree of Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of the Republic of
Kazakhstan.
The Foreign Investments Council is a non-government advisory body
to President Nazarbayev and is chaired by him.
The Council includes executive officers from the largest foreign
investors in Kazakhstan. Among them are ChevronTexaco, the BG Group,
Total, EBRD and a host of other globally renowned companies and
banks. LUKOIL is the only representative of the Russian business
community in the Council.
The main purpose of the Council is to facilitate foreign investment
in Kazakhstan and to create a favorable investment climate. The
Council meets twice a year under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan’s
President.
The appointment of Vagit Alekperov to the Council is yet another
sign of appreciation of the activities of LUKOIL, the largest Russian
investor in Kazakhstan, which has invested around $1.5 billion in
the country’s economy over the past eight years.
LUKOIL’s involvement in the Council’s activities creates
additional prerequisites for intensification of the company’s
activities in Kazakhstan.
Vagit Alekperov commented: “Today LUKOIL is implementing
seven projects in the Republic, and their number is certain to grow
tomorrow. The projected amount of our investment in the Dostyk offshore
project alone stands at nearly $3 billion. It is comforting to know
that this investment activity is finding the support of the leadership
of Kazakhstan”.
