Another Ormen Lange job for Statoil
Posted: 11 December 2003
A new agreement with Norsk Hydro, operator of the Ormen Lange gas
development in the Norwegian Sea, makes Statoil responsible for
several contracts covering the multiphase pipelines to land.
The group is to handle planning and management relating to the
procurement and delivery of steel line pipe, anodes and pipeline
coating.
This job covers two production pipelines for unprocessed wellstream
running from Ormen Lange to the processing and export plant at Nyhamna
in mid-Norway.
In addition come two pipelines for transporting monoethylene glycol
over the same route. All these lines will be about 120 kilometres
long.
A 3.5-kilometre monoethylene glycol line will also be installed
between two of the subsea templates planned for the field.
These contracts are placed as a separate assignment for Hydro under
Statoil's existing frame agreements for such work.
However, they have been awarded in collaboration with the latter
company's project team for the Langeled gas export pipeline.
That facility is due to run from Nyhamna via the Sleipner Riser
platform in the North Sea to Easington on the UK east coast.
"This latest job will help to achieve efficient use of resources
and good coordination of deliveries between Ormen Lange and Langeled,"
says Odd Nøland, head of procurement in the project execution
entity.
The multiphase pipelines between Ormen Lange in 850 metres of water
and Nyhamna must be weighted in the shallower part of the route
and insulated for the deep section.
An insulation coating is also required for the monoethylene glycol
lines.
Shell will take over from Hydro as production operator of Ormen
Lange when the field comes on stream, which is scheduled for October
2007.
