GE unit Conmec to supply Hovensa refinery

Posted: 13 December 2003

Conmec, a U.S.-based unit of GE Oil & Gas, has been awarded a contract from HOVENSA LLC to supply a fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) power recovery system for a petroleum refining facility in Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

The HOVENSA refinery receives and processes crude oils from all over the world and supplies the processed oil products to North and South America and Europe. The supply of the new, 28.5-megawatt FCC hot gas power recovery expander will increase the plant's power generating capacity by approximately 14 per cent.

T he Conmec contract also includes the supply of catalyst separation equipment, process piping and valves, a TEWAC generator, lube oil skid, water-cooling facilities, control system and balance-of-plant design and materials. The contract with Conmec, the sole responsible supplier to HOVENSA, also will be supported by GE Industrial Systems and P2S/Fluor.

The GE equipment will be built in Easton, Pa. and Peterborough, Ontario, Canada and shipped to the project site between July 2004 and January 2005. The power recovery facility is scheduled to begin operation in March 2005.

Conmec is a world leader in the redesign, manufacture and servicing of turbomachinery and control systems. Headquartered in Bethlehem, Pa., Conmec was acquired by GE Power Systems in 2001 and became a member of the GE Oil & Gas business.

GE Oil & Gas, a unit of GE Power Systems, is based in Florence, Italy, the home of Nuovo Pignone, a long-time global leader in gas compression and turbo generation products.

In addition to Nuovo Pignone and Conmec, other members of the GE Oil & Gas family include Gemini, GE Packaged Power Odessa, Rotoflow and A-C Compressor of the U.S.; Thermodyn of France; and PII Pipeline Solutions of the U.K.
