Halliburton performs deepwater well test in Norway

Posted: 16 December 2003

Halliburton Energy Services recently performed a record-breaking deepwater well test operation for Statoil at the Ellida structure in the Norwegian Sea.

The test -- performed from the dynamically positioned drill ship, West Navigator, at a water depth of more than 1,200 meters is the first well test performed at such a water depth off the Norwegian coast. HES is a business unit of Halliburton.

"We are very satisfied with the services provided to us in connection with this testing operation," said Tore Klungsøyr, the Statoil project manager for the Ellida well. "The deep water test was planned on a very tight time schedule. It was also the first drillstem test operation performed onboard the vessel West Navigator.

"We are impressed by how the operation was prepared and performed, particularly with the timely and effective communication between the shore-based and the offshore-based operations. This is a very important success factor in a complex operation that was performed without incidents or an environmental spill," Klungsøyr concluded.

Halliburton's Tarjei Gudmestad, country manager for Tools, Testing and Tubing Conveyed Perforating (TTTCP) and Completions Products and Services in Norway, said: "The duration of the test operation was in excess of 400 hours through a period of very rough weather, but we were able to deliver equipment and personnel to perform a safe, reliable reservoir evaluation for Statoil."
